The sub-project „Inventing History: Narrative Compositions in Demotic and Biblical Literature - Egyptology” of the ERC Grant „DEMBIB: From Text to Literature. Egyptian Demotic Papyri and the Formation of the Hebrew Bible” investigates historiographical literature in the Hebrew Bible and Egyptian texts. Due to the interdisciplinary approach and the overarching literary-historical and socio-historical questions, the project pursues a comparative approach (project description: https://www.theologie.hu-berlin.de/en/dembib).

Job description:

• scientific service in research in the sub-project „Inventing History: Narrative Compositions in Demotic and Biblical Literature - Egyptology“
• work on a jointly agreed sub-topic on historiographical literature / the historical works of the Old Testament or demotic narrative literature within the sub-project, preferably on the Demotic Chronicle and possible Old Testament parallels
• active participation in the activities of the project (including workshops and conferences) including their preparation

Requirements:

• completed scientific university education in (protestant) theology, and / or a comparable degree with a focus on the Old Testament and / or Egyptology
• familiarity with at least one language of the Ancient Near East (Biblical Hebrew, Egyptian, Demotic, Aramaic, etc.)
• very good written and spoken German and English skills
• experience of working in an international research environment desirable
• willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and international project team
• good organizational skills
