The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department for Education Studies, invites applications for a

W3 Full Professorship for “Democracy Education at the Primary Level with a focus on General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics”

starting as soon as possible.

The professorship is to represent topics of democracy with a special focus on primary school and “General Studies in Primary Education” and its didactics.

A research and teaching profile is expected with a focus on the following areas:

• Democracy education / political education in primary schools
• Subject-specific teaching and its didactics, especially with reference to the subject-specifics and subject-didactic foundations of the social sciences.

The duties of the professorship include research and teaching in the field of General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics, social science-related aspects in and for the primary level, as well as social science didactic content, also with reference to the special features of the 6-year primary school in Berlin (teaching in the primary school teaching profession, especially in General Studies in Primary Education (Sachunterricht) and its didactics, as well as in the subject- or profession-related supplement in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees) and participation in examinations and the self-administration of the university.

In addition, cooperation with the other departments of the Department of Education Studies, the Joint Commission for Primary School Teachers, the Committee for “Sachunterricht und seine Didaktik” with the reference subjects, with the Professional School Education (PSE) as well as the State Agency for Civic Education (Landeszentrale für Politische Bildung) is desired.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the ‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’, and here in particular also those of § 100 (3).
