The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is one of eleven German universities that have been awarded the 'University of Excellence' status since 2012. Located at the Institute of Biology, our research group investigates, molecular mechanisms in bacterial cell biology. investigates molecular mechanisms in microbial cell biology.

In the complex interplay between bacteriophages and their bacterial hosts, anti-phage defense mechanisms, such as the recently discovered Zorya system, play a crucial role. This project, funded under the SPP 2330 "New concepts in prokaryotic virus-host interactions," aims to investigate fundamental immune mechanisms of bacteria against bacteriophages through a combination of live-cell microscopy, biochemistry, and bacterial genetics.

Job description:

  • scientific services in research in the DFG project ""New concepts in prokaryotic virus-host interactions", in particular in the field of cell biology of bacteria and bacteriophages
  • writing of scientific publications
  • attending scientific meetings and conferences
  • state-of-the-art microbiological laboratory work with focus on advanced microscopy techniques
  • opportunity for own scientific Qualification (doctorate)

Requirements:

  • completed scientific university degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or related fields
  • experience in at least of two of the following fields is required: microbiology, microscopy, biochemistry and bacterial genetics
  • knowledge of a scripting language (e.g. Python) will be considered as an advantage
