The Laboratory for Organic Synthesis of Functional Systems at Humboldt University in Berlin is looking for an excellent and highly motivated researcher for a full-time position to join our team on 1st March 2026 as a doctoral candidate in the field of synthesis of advanced lignin polymer conjugates for 3D printable materials and battery applications. The work will be carried out as part of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network Better BioBased Polymers (Better-BBPolNet, Project DC11).
The doctoral project will be jointly supervised by Prof. Dr. Hans Börner (HU Berlin) and Prof. Georg Gübitz (BOKU Vienna), leading to a double doctoral degree. A 9-month research stay at BOKU (Vienna) and 2-month industrial placement will complement your training. There is also excellent networking within the MSCA doctoral network.
Job Description: Scientific services in research within the framework of the Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network, in particular research on an independent project with the aim of obtaining a doctorate; the proposed research project is dedicated to research at the interface of organic synthesis, enzyme technology, polymer science and bio-based materials.
Requirements: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a university degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or related subjects, taking into account EU eligibility as an ‘early stage researcher’ and EU mobility requirements. These stipulate that, at the time of recruitment, applicants must not have resided in Germany for more than 12 months in the last three years or have carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) there. Second stays at European partner institutions are mandatory. Very good English skills (spoken and written) are required (minimum C1).
