Job description:
- conduct research in the Databases and Information Systems group, as part of the DFG project "RegEx Querying for Biological Sequences" (RegExBis) on efficient query processing over sequence data
- develop the algorithmic foundations for the decomposition of queries that are based on regular expressions, as well as for their efficient evaluation using index structures
- implement and evaluate the developed techniques
- collaborate with other researchers and visit other research groups within the project
- publish research results in renowned journals and the proceedings of leading international conferences
- take tasks for own academic qualification
- opportunity to work towards further scientific qualification (Ph.D.)
Requirements:
- an excellent MSc degree in computer science, or related fields, ideally with a focus on data engineering
- knowledge in the fields of query languages for sequence data, efficient data structures, and indices for query evaluation
- ability to develop algorithms for the decomposition of regular expressions and respective index structures
- very good programming skills in languages for system programming (C, C++)
- experience in handling large-scale data and distributed infrastructures
- excellent scientific communication and writing skills in English
