The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is one of eleven German universities that have been awarded the 'University of Excellence' status since 2012. Located at the Department of Biology, our research group investigates fundamental, molecular mechanisms in bacterial cell biology and synthetic biology. In the interdisciplinary ANR-DFG-funded project BacCellFactory, we aim to develop methods to optimize recombinant protein production by engineering bacterial secretion machineries. The research will be performed at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Germany) and at IECB, Université de Bordeaux (France).

The position is available immediately with a latest project start date September 1, 2024. It is expected that the selected candidate travels to the partner Institution at least twice during their PhD for knowledge exchange and to perform experiments.


Job description:

  • Scientific services in research in the ANR-DFG project "BacCellFactory
  • Tasks for own scientific Qualification (doctorate)



  • Completed scientific university degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related fields
  • Experience in microbiology, biochemistry and/or bacterial genetics will be considered as an advantage
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an international team
  • Highest motivation and excellent English communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Creative thinking to develop new approaches and methods
