The Faculty of Life Sciences, Department of Biology, invites applications for
Professorship for "Microbial Infection Biology" (W2)
starting october 1st, 2024.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include developing a cutting-edge and internationally competitive research program to lead and recruit an associated team in the field of Microbial Infection Biology.
Microbial Infection Biology is defined as the study of infection processes of disease-causing microorganisms. We look forward to applications from researchers studying the molecular mechanisms of infections of bacterial, eukaryotic and viral pathogens and pathogen interactions with host cells and/or tissues using innovative and interdisciplinary approaches based on a combination of cutting-edge methodologies e.g. bioinformatics, omics, genetics, molecular, biochemical, imaging, and single cell technologies. Research approaches may also include molecular mechanisms of drug resistance, chronic infections, pathogen persistence, and interactions of pathogenic microorganisms with host microbiomes.
The professorship is embedded in a strong research environment in Berlin, and is expected to complement existing research priorities in microbiology and infection biology, as well as the research focus "Quantitative Biology in Space and Time" of the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Life Sciences. The new professor will be expected to participate in Berlin research networks, e.g., the Berlin University Alliance, and collaborate with non-university research institutions, in particular the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology and the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens. In teaching, the successful candidate will comprehensively represent the field of microbiology and infection biology in the Bachelors program. In the Master’s program, she or he will engage in the newly established M.Sc. Quantitative Molecular Biology.
Applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the Berliner Hochschulgesetz.
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and specifically encourages qualified female scholars to apply.
Researchers from abroad are welcome to apply.
Severely disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration.
Individuals with an immigration background are specifically encouraged to apply.
