The School of Business and Economics is looking to fill a

Junior Professorship in “AI in Business and Economics”

starting 1 October 2024.

This is a tenure track position, with an initial level W1 with the possibility of a promotion to level W3. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than after five years of service. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teaching duties, as well as be active on various university committees, in the promotion of young scientists and acquire leadership and management skills. The actual requirements as outlined in the framework catalogue [https://hu.berlin/tenuretrack_katalog] will be specified in the course of the appointment process.

The professorship is to support the faculty in teaching and research in the field of its denomination. In teaching, collaboration in the bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs of the faculty as well as the cross-faculty master's programs in Statistics and Information Systems is expected. In particular, the teaching curriculum of the faculty is to be strengthened by new offers at the interface of economics and artificial intelligence (AI), especially machine learning (ML).

In research, the professorship is to be dedicated to the development and application of AI/ML methods in business and economics. A methodological focus in one of the areas of algorithmic text mining (NLP), Bayesian analytics, interpretability and explainability of AI models (XAI) or the interface of ML and econometrics (e.g. causal ML, policy or reinforcement learning) would be conceivable. The research results should be published in relevant international journals and at relevant international conferences.

It is expected that the professorship will work closely with members of the faculty within joint research projects. To this end, AI/ML methods should be addressed, in particular, in the context of the economic foci of the faculty, as represented, for example, by the DFG-funded Transregios "Accounting for Transparency" and "Rationality & Competition". A scientific exchange with the AI research unit on Deep Learning & Statistics is also desirable.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in conjunction with § 102c combined with § 102a of the ‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’.

HU is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and specifically encourages qualified female scholars to apply. Researchers from abroad are welcome to apply. Severely disabled applicants with equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration. People with an immigration history are specifically encouraged to apply.
